There is no mistake that social media has bolstered the convenience of our everyday lives—students can get updates on school activities instantly, parents can monitor their children more effectively, and teachers can extend communication beyond the classroom. With a few taps on a screen, we are more informed, more connected, and more engaged than ever before.
But here in this comfort and convenience that we relish lies an epidemic that has quietly festered since the rise of digital platforms: the spread of misinformation.
What was once a tool for connection has, over the years, evolved into a powerful vehicle for confusion. From misleading headlines to unverified claims, misinformation—often disguised as truth—spreads faster than facts. And the consequences? Damaged reputations, panic over false events, and a student body that may unknowingly share or believe in distorted truths.
Consolatrix College of Toledo City, Inc., our beloved alma mater, is not immune to this growing concern. Just one misleading post—be it about class suspensions, school events, or disciplinary actions—can cause widespread confusion. What begins as a harmless repost may spiral into chaos, affecting both student morale and public perception. As members of a Catholic and educational institution rooted in truth and integrity, it is our duty to uphold values that protect, not distort, the truth.
So, how do we stop this epidemic of misinformation?
Here are a few simple yet powerful reminders from your fellow Consolatricians:
Think before you click. Before sharing any information, ask: Is this source reliable? Is this verified by the school or credible news agencies?
Check official sources. For anything school-related, always refer to the official channels—the school website, the official Facebook page, or official advisories.
Avoid reposting sensationalized content. If a post seems exaggerated or alarming, take a moment to fact-check before contributing to the noise.
Speak up. If you see a classmate sharing false information, correct them respectfully. Promoting a culture of accountability helps stop the spread.
Be part of the solution. If you love to write, investigate, or clarify information, contribute to The Consolatrician. Be a truth advocate.
In a digital age where everyone can be a publisher, we must remember that we are also all gatekeepers of truth. The responsibility to fight misinformation does not fall on one person, one adviser, or one platform—it falls on all of us.
Let us not allow lies to take root where truth should thrive. As students of Consolatrix College of Toledo City, Inc., let us be discerning, responsible, and proactive digital citizens. For in choosing truth over trend, and integrity over impulse, we do not just protect the reputation of our school—we protect the values we stand for.
Together, we can end the epidemic. Let the truth start with us.
